Carry the power of 500mm anywhere
An 500mm ultra-telephoto zoom lens that’s ready to go wherever you are. As the longest in the LUMIX S series*, it offers excellent handling and outstanding image quality, ideal for capturing distant subjects like elusive birds, wildlife, or sports scenes where tripods aren’t allowed. With the optional 2x teleconverter (DMW-STC20), you can reach an impressive 1000mm focal length.

Exceptional image quality from 100mm to 500mm, faithfully capturing fine details across the frame. At 500mm, the lens offers dramatic compression effects while maintaining clarity. Well-suited for everything from the intricate lines of vehicles to the delicate textures of birds and wildlife. Additionally, with the Hybrid Zoom feature*, you can extend your zoom range up to 1,562mm** for both photos and videos.
*This function combines optical zoom and crop zoom, allowing you to extend the telephoto range using only the zoom ring without changing the focal length at the wide-end.
**Compatible with the DC-S1M2, S1M2ES, S5M2, S5M2X and S9. When using the DC-S1RM2, the maximum focal length is 2,105mm. The maximum focal length varies depending on the camera model. Please update the DC-S5M2 to firmware version 3.2 and the DC-S5M2X to version 2.2.
Up to 1000mm with teleconverters
Compatible with the optional 1.4x (DMW-STC14) and 2.0x (DMW-STC20) teleconverters, this lens extends your focal length to 700mm* or even 1000mm**. Even at these extended focal lengths, the compact setup allows handheld shooting without a tripod, making it ideal for dynamic telephotography in the field.
*Use of the teleconverter reduces the effective aperture by one f/stop (DMW-STC14) or two f/stops (DMW-STC20).
**When a teleconverter is attached, the focal length of this lens is limited to 150–500mm.

S 100-500 F5-7.1 lens construction
Longer focal lengths tend to introduce chromatic aberration, which can reduce contrast and cause colour bleeding. That’s why the lens has a carefully optimised arrangement of two UED (Ultra Extra-low Dispersion) and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements. The UED elements offer even lower dispersion than ED elements, delivering performance close to that of fluorite. This combination effectively corrects axial chromatic aberration, ensuring sharp, high-contrast results.

Up to 7 stops* of image stabilization with Dual I.S. 2
In addition to the optical image stabilization (O.I.S.), this lens supports Dual I.S. 2, which works together with the camera's B.I.S. to deliver up to 7 stops* of compensation at the telephoto range. Normally, the correction angle decreases as the focal length increases, but Dual I.S. makes it possible to compensate for camera shake even in the telephoto range. Whether shooting handheld at telephoto or using slow shutter speeds, you can shoot confidently without worrying about hand-shake blur.

Responsive controls for every shooting situation
Designed to adapt to your workflow, this lens offers responsive control in a wide range of shooting situations. You can switch O.I.S. modes or adjust zoom torque with the tight-smooth ring for smooth and stable telephoto shots. Frequently used functions can be assigned to the customizable focus ring or focus button (Fn button) for instant access. In manual focus mode, the lens offers precise, intuitive adjustments that align with your creative intent. Even when mounted on a tripod, the bundled tripod mount allows you to rotate the lens between horizontal and vertical positions without moving the tripod head.
Tight-smooth Ring
The new tight-smooth ring lets you adjust the zoom ring's feel for optimal control. From delicate framing to fast zooming, you can achieve the precise handling you need while preventing unintended zoom movements.
Focus Switch
The focus switch lets you choose between FULL and LIMIT settings to streamline focusing and respond instantly to fast-moving subjects.
O.I.S. Switch
Switch between O.I.S. modes to match your shooting style. MODE 1 is ideal for general shooting, while MODE 2 is optimised for panning shots, automatically detecting and compensating for the direction of motion.
Customizable Focus Ring
The focus ring can be used as a control ring,* allowing you to assign key functions such as aperture and exposure compensation.
